Body painting
Een vergankelijke kunstvorm die alleen vereeuwigd kan worden op foto of video. Body painting is onderdeel van Body art, een kunstvorm die op het lichaam of met behulp van het lichaam wordt gemaakt. In veel delen van de wereld zoals Afrika en Australië worden natuurlijke pigmenten gebruikt ter versiering van het lichaam. Henna is heel gebruikelijk in Indische, Arabische en Afrikaanse culturen. En in de Westerse cultuur schminkt men zich tijdens voetbalwedstrijden, carnaval of Halloween. In het tropenmuseum is op dit moment tot eind augustus nog een tentoonstelling te zien over dit thema.
Body painting wordt nog niet door iedereen beschouwd als kunstvorm maar de gevestigde kunstwereld heeft er in het verleden zeker gebruik van gemaakt. Beroemd is bijvoorbeeld Anthropométries van Yves Kleine, een performance waarbij naakte vrouwen verf op doek overbrachten met behulp van hun lichaam.

And in Western culture it is usual to paint our faces for soccer matches, Halloween and carnival. There is an exhibition about body painting in the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam currently until the end of August.
Body painting is still not recognized as an art form by everyone. But it didn’t go unnoticed in the established art world in the past. Yves Kleines Anthropométries is famous for example. Naked women were human paintbrushes in his performance. They were painting surfaces with their body on the tunes of monotone symphony.
